M2BPGi (Mac-2 Binding Protein Glycosylation Isomer) is a new, non-invasive biomarker for assessing liver fibrosis and predicting liver cancer risk

Cirrhosis and liver cancer are among the leading causes of death in Vietnam, with the incidence rate among the highest in the Asia-Pacific region. Early diagnosis plays a key role in treatment and improving the quality of life for patients. In an effort to jointly address this challenge, M2BPGi - a blood biomarker test, promises to bring a breakthrough in the early diagnosis of liver cancer and cirrhosis.

* M2BPGi – Breakthrough diagnostic technology

M2BPGi (Mac-2 Binding Protein Glycosylation Isomer) is a substance produced very early when liver cells have abnormal changes, especially in liver cells of people with chronic hepatitis. Serum M2BPGi concentration correlates with the stage of liver fibrosis, helping to assess the degree of liver fibrosis and detect early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with high accuracy. This is a relatively simple blood test, giving quick results, and is a powerful tool to help doctors determine the degree of liver fibrosis, disease prognosis and predict liver cancer. The outstanding advantages of this method are that it is accurate, non-invasive, safe and convenient for patients compared to traditional liver biopsy.

Multicenter Research – International Collaboration

Bach Mai Hospital is participating in an international multicenter study on M2BPGi. The study involves 14 leading medical centers in Asia, including Japan, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. Bach Mai Hospital is one of three representatives of Vietnam participating in this international project.

The research is expected to:

  • Improving early diagnosis of cirrhosis and liver cancer in Vietnam.
  • Support the development of more personalized and effective treatment regimens.
  • Contribute to reducing mortality rate due to liver cancer, improving public health.

Through participating in this international research, Bach Mai Hospital affirms its pioneering role in applying modern medical technology, contributing to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases in Vietnam.
