Hai Phong – On June 14, 2025, the Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Society (VIGES) in collaboration with Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital and Olympus Vietnam successfully organized a scientific workshop with the theme “Training to master ESD – from diagnostic colonoscopy to advanced ESD techniques”. The event attracted the participation of many doctors and medical experts in Hai Phong and neighboring provinces, becoming a valuable scientific forum, contributing to promoting the development of the digestive endoscopy specialty in Vietnam.

The workshop is part of VIGES's continuous training activities, with the aim of improving the capacity to diagnose and treat digestive diseases, especially early cancer, for medical staff across the country.
In-depth expert reports from leading experts
The conference program was highly appreciated for its professional quality with the participation of prestigious speakers from Japan and Vietnam:
- On the part of international experts:
- Prof. Dr. Tomohiko Ohya (Japan): Delivered an overview lecture, updated the latest advances in Endoscopic Mucosal Dissection (ESD) technique and shared valuable experiences in training and implementing this technique worldwide.

-
- Dr. Masashi Fujii (Japan): The author of the Mikoto Endoscopy Practical Training Model, introduced in detail this unique training system. In particular, Dr. Fujii brought 3 practical models (stomach, colon, ERCP), in which new ERCP model launched in Vietnam, opening up a new approach to training this difficult procedure.

- On the part of Vietnamese experts:
- BSCKII. Nguyen Anh Duong (Bach Mai Hospital): Share a highly applicable report on how to recognize and handle common complications in ESD, based on practical experience and clinical cases at Bach Mai Hospital.

-
- Dr. Dang Chieu Duong (Head of Gastroenterology Department, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital): Introduce the unit's capacity and development orientation, and present 2 complex clinical cases that will be intervened in the practice session.

Effective hands-on sessions with real clinical cases and high-tech simulation models
The highlight of the workshop was the afternoon practical session. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Tomohiko Ohya, the students were able to directly observe two complex ESD intervention cases (early esophageal cancer and large transverse colon polyps) broadcast live from the endoscopy room.

Immediately afterwards, doctors had the opportunity to practice techniques on high-tech models. The Mikoto model and pig stomach helped doctors, especially young doctors, gain simulation experiences close to clinical reality. The system provides detailed step-by-step instructions and has an objective scoring and evaluation mechanism immediately after completion, helping learners recognize mistakes and improve their skills effectively.

Affirming commitment to accompany the Vietnamese endoscopy community
The success of the workshop is the result of close cooperation between VIGES and Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital. VIGES would like to express its sincere thanks to the Board of Directors and staff of Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital for their support and creating the best conditions for the program.
VIGES would also like to express our sincere thanks to the experts who took the time to share their knowledge and all colleagues who enthusiastically attended. The eagerness to learn of the community of doctors and nurses across the country is the driving force for VIGES to continue its mission of "connecting knowledge, spreading the quintessence". The Vietnam Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association will strive to continue to organize more quality training programs and seminars, contributing to building an increasingly strong and professional Vietnamese endoscopy community.
