5th Asian Endoscopic Ultrasound Conference (AEC 2025)

On June 21 and 22, 2025, a delegation from the Vietnamese Society of Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (VIGES), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Long - Chairman of the Society, Director of the Center for Gastroenterology - Hepatobiliary, Bach Mai Hospital, attended the 5th Asian Endoscopic Ultrasound Congress (AEC 2025) held in Taipei, Taiwan.

VIGES's Professional Mark at AEC 2025

At the conference, the Vietnamese delegation played an active role in many aspects. Notably, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Long was invited as a faculty member for the Hands-on session. Here, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Long directly guided international trainees in performing EUS-guided Fine Needle Biopsy (FNB), one of the fundamental and important techniques. The fact that an expert from Vietnam served as a trainer at a prestigious international forum demonstrated international recognition of the expertise and experience of Vietnamese doctors.

In addition, VIGES's scientific research activities were also recognized when reports by Dr. Pham Minh Hai (Member of VIGES Executive Committee, University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City) and MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung (Member of VIGES, Center for Gastroenterology - Hepatobiliary, Bach Mai Hospital) were selected for presentation in the E-poster section of the conference.

VIGES's position was further demonstrated by its role as one of the official specialized associations endorsing AEC 2025, alongside major endoscopy associations from Japan, Korea, India, and other countries in the region.

Updating World-Leading Medical Advances

Attending the conference, members of the delegation accessed and deeply discussed the latest trends in endoscopic ultrasound, including:

• Advanced diagnostic techniques: Contrast-enhanced endoscopic ultrasound (CEH-EUS) and shear-wave elastography EUS help to more accurately assess the nature of lesions.
• Gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary-pancreatic interventions: Breakthroughs in biliary and pancreatic drainage, and creation of artificial anastomoses via EUS using new generation instruments such as LAMS stents, embolization with coils under EUS guidance, etc.
• New application: EUS in tumor treatment (EUS-guided anti-tumor treatment), vascular intervention, and tissue sampling for genomic analysis.

This knowledge is a valuable asset, promising to be soon implemented and applied by VIGES members in Vietnam, contributing to the mission of improving Vietnamese people's health.
