On August 23, 2025, at the Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Viet Nam Interventional Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (VIGES) successfully collaborated with the university and Thai Nguyen Central Hospital to organize an international scientific workshop themed "Mastering ESD Training: From Colonoscopy Diagnosis to Advanced ESD Technique." The event attracted a large number of experts, physicians, and doctors in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology from Thai Nguyen and neighboring provinces.
The workshop was honored by the participation of leading domestic and international experts, including:

- PGS.TS. Nguyễn Công Long President of the Viet Nam Interventional Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (VIGES)

- Along with experienced speakers and medical staff from VIGES and Thai Nguyen Central Hospital
n his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Long, President of VIGES, emphasized the importance of the Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) technique in treating early-stage cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract. This is an advanced interventional endoscopy technique that allows for the complete removal of tumors while preserving the organ, thereby improving the patient's quality of life.
The morning program focused on in-depth theoretical lectures, updating the latest knowledge and guidelines from around the world
- GS.TS. Tomohiko Ohya delivered comprehensive reports on the indications, technical steps, and management of complications in ESD, with a special focus on the necessary skills required during the training and learning process for this procedure
- Speakers from VIGES and the Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy presented on the role of Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) in diagnosing early colorectal cancer and effective treatment methods for colorectal polyps.
A special highlight of the workshop was the afternoon practical session held at the operating room of the Endoscopy Department in Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. During this session, doctors were guided by Prof. Dr. Tomohiko Ohya through the ESD technique on a live clinical case and on a Mikoto model. This "hands-on" training session provided invaluable experience, helping physicians become more confident in implementing the technique at their respective institutions.

This scientific workshop served not only as a forum for knowledge updates but also as a precious opportunity to enhance collaboration and networking between VIGES, the Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. This joint effort is dedicated to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment for digestive diseases, particularly early-stage cancer.
